A Bull Sale has never been held on a commercial site in Australia before and Ag ‘n Vet Services have never held a stock sale before, but that’s what’s occurring in Henty in just over a week’s time.

Mick Broughan of Ag ‘n Vet Services told the Eastern Riverina Chronicle on Friday that stock sales are not normally in their charter as they only sell rural merchandise, but due to the continuation of the license held by M S Davidson & Co they thought it was pertinent to hold an inaugural sale in Henty and then possibly implement sales at some of their other 30+ sites.

Mick said “Beef Specialist Bill Cornell is a Henty landholder and cattle breeder and it was a great opportunity to be invited to market his bulls at our centre on Friday August 13. One of Ag ‘n Vet Services principals, General Manager Mark Giffen will be attending to monitor the success and John Feehan, a recognised authority on Dung Beetles both in Australia and internationally will be holding an information session on the day.”

Bill Cornell has over 40 years experience in the industry and says his Black Simmental and Simmental/Angus Hybrids are an excellent representation of utilizing hybrid vigor and increasing profits in beef cattle without increasing costs.

Bill said “They are a reasonably new breed in Australia. The Sires are “CNS Dream” on and “SRS Right-on”; both North American. We saw them in the United States and were so impressed we exported the semen.

“I’m offering 15 black bulls and 1 red for sale on the day. The sale will be conducted using the “Helmsman” method which is a fairer way of trading at this type of sale.

“These hybrids have a pregnancy rate eight per cent better and will give 25-30% more production (by saleable weight) in their life time than pure bred cattle.”

Bill went on to say that industry research into these hybrids has spanned over 38 years, the majority of it conducted in Nebraska, and it has shown that Simmental/Angus is the best in terms of fertility, production and return to the producer.

“It took me 10 years to jump from British bred cattle to these” said Bill, “but once I started I saw the benefits and results and knew I was on the right track. All Simmental/Angus Hybrids have Angus MBR Breed plan EBVs available and I’ll be presenting at the sale to explain the simple solution to get maximum use of hybrid vigor.”

The sale will be on August 13, Black (Bull) Friday, at Ag ‘n Vet Services Henty site.
