There was a buzz in Lockhart last week regarding iron ore exploration being carried out on the edge of the township.
A few locals said that they had seen planes circling over an area a number of times and others said that an outside company was undertaking a feasibility study.
Lockhart Shire Council General Manager Mr Chris Gallagher told the Eastern Riverina Chronicle on Friday “We are aware of rumours of exploration in an area of Lockhart Shire for, we believe, iron ore. However there has been no official communication about exploration proposals.
“There is nothing definite, only rumours. It could be a State Development operation so they would need to go through State Government”.
The Eastern Riverina Chronicle will monitor this closely and keep readers advised of any possible further developments.
