MAIN STREET UPGRADE

24 Jun, 2009 08:24 AM
Walla Walla Community Development Committee and the Greater Hume Shire Council are moving full steam ahead with the planned $40,000 upgrade to the main street funded by the Federal Government.

The Greater Hume Shire Council Director of Engineering, Greg Blackie said “The Council received Federal Funding worth $500,000 which has been split up amongst the towns in the Greater Hume Shire. We are very pleased to be working in partnership with the Walla Walla Community Development Committee to improve their street scape”.

“We will be commencing work very shortly as it needs to be finished by September” said Greg. “The only delay we would like to see is rain, rain and rain”.

Stage one was the removal of four large gum trees outside the Swimming Pool. Stage two being the addition of curb and tree blisters in front of the Walla Hotel and Billabong Café and Post Office, and then the final stage is to extend Bicentennial Park with gardens, picnic table and shelter.

“This is an exciting and fantastic development for the township of Walla” said Kim Lieschke member of the Walla Walla Community Development Committee. “It will be great for tourists passing by to stop for a break, look around and enjoy our town”.

Future projects the Walla Walla Community Development Committee is working towards are new toilet facilities in Bicentennial Park and coverage of the stormwater drain outside the swimming pool.
