Four house fires in Culcairn

14 Jul, 2010 08:45 AM
Culcairn Fire brigade was called to its fourth house fire this winter in the early hours of Thursday July 8.

A neighbour in Melville Street Culcairn heard a loud bang before seeing flames leaping from a house at about 4.30am.

“The house was well alight when the Culcairn fire brigade arrived at the rented premises and extinguished the fire,” Senior Constable Mark Hund said.

“Scientific police and detectives examined the scene and believe there were no suspicious circumstances,” he said on Friday.

The person renting the house owned by Henty business man Daniel Hoban, was away at the time of the fire.

This winter local fire fighters and police have attended two separate fires at a house on Mitchell’s Road and another fire in Hamilton Street which was started by a gas appliance when the owner was carrying out renovations.
