An invaluable member of the Henty community was recognised at the official opening of the Henty Park Tennis Club last Friday afternoon.
Margaret Cooke has been a nurse at the Henty Hospital for over 50 years and during that time has helped make many patients time hospital stay much more comfortable.
On Friday Margaret, or “Cookie” as she is affectionately known, was recognised for another accomplishment. “Cookie” was awarded a certificate of appreciation by James Male, president of the Henty Park Tennis Club on behalf of the club and the Henty community.
Mr Male said that “Cookie” was at court side each and every Saturday without fail encouraging the Henty players.
“We just wanted to recognise that she has been a lifelong supporter of the club over the years. Every week she turns up and is a great encourager for all the players,” Mr Male said.
“Even if I don’t play well you are always there by the gate saying ‘good game James’,” he laughed.
Ms Cooke was awarded a certificate and a copy of June Shanahan’s book ‘Ancestors of a Wimbledon Champion’ in appreciation for the support she shows the club.
